Zakariye has had various headlines across the UK. His creative career spans over eight years (he’s getting old) and include: having his short poetry film CAGES broadcast on BBC 4 and BBC iPlayer, reaching the finals of the Roundhouse Poetry Slam where he won the audience vote, headlined for We Don’t Settle as part of Poet’s Corner at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, filmed a short poetry film through Apples and Snakes’ programme Future Voices where he worked with Aston Villa Football Club to shoot at Villa Park, worked with Flatpack for their festivals by delivering poetry sets, film screenings and workshops. He has performed at Westminster Abbey, Hay Festival and TEDx.

He is an alumni of the RoundhousePoetry Collective 23-24 where he was mentored by Cecilia Knapp and was a Roundhouse Resident Artist 24-25 where he put on his first play titled Cages as part of the Roundhouse 360 Festival. Cages was later picked up by Roundhouse as part of their Studio Theatre Season for a 3 show run. He has since gone on to write a new play titled Pretend like it’s Calm which showed at the Birmingham Hippodrome as part of their Origins Festival.

Zakariye had his debut poetry pamphlet Pulling Faces published with Bad Betty Press in November 2025 and it has since gone on to be longlisted for the Jhalak Poetry Prize.

His residencies include Punch Records for Gallery 37 and Community Routes, Birmingham Hippodrome for their Gathering Initiative, Arvon through Apples and Snakes for their Words a Stage programme and Hayati and Ort Gallery’s Poet in Residence.
